Our Club
The Moreton Bay Game Fish Club was formed in 1953 by a group of anglers who were keen to foster the growth of game fishing in Australia. The twenty-five foundation members were experienced anglers of the time who had a desire to establish their favourite sport in the home waters of Moreton Bay. They also travelled further afield to share their skills and enthusiasm to locate and develop other game fishing destinations. Later they were also the crux of the body, which is known as the QGFA or Queensland Game Fishing Association.
Throughout the years The Moreton Bay Game Fish Club has been one of the driving forces in game fishing, both locally and nationally. The acquisition of a parcel of land on Moreton Island, between The Wrecks and Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort, provide a good base for anglers. The week long Tangalooma Tournament was based here in the past but these days it gives the club members an area with good facilities where they can spend a weekend or even longer. With three club mooring bouys for the use of club members, the Club Land provides the ideal getaway at very little cost and minimal preparation. The facilities include hot showers, toilets, cooking facilities, refrigeration, camp-sites, eating areas and much more. If you don`t want to cook for yourself then it is just a short walk up the beach to the Tangalooma Resort. From its anchorages, you are half way to the rich fish areas such as The Trench, Hutchies, Flinders Reef and the waters off Cape Moreton. You can also use the Club Land as a base while fishing in Moreton Bay for longtail tuna, mackerel, snapper, mack tuna, sweetlip, tailor, cobia, kingfish, bonito, trevally and a host of other recognized gamefish species.
The club is always looking for new members, so if you enjoy fishing, camping, or just like participating in club functions and would like further details, pleae do not hesitate to contact us.
